Grand Bay Paper, once known as UNICELL is in the stage of integrating their operations with Trinidad Tissues Ltd (converting plant) after they both became 100% owned by Kruger, the leading tissue company in Canada. Now part of a regional group of companies that spans paper mills and converters in North, Central and South America, the company has benefitted from the technical know-how, marketing and sales expertise of their sister companies. With the vision of becoming the main supply center for tissue paper throughout the Caribbean, Grand Bay Paper is definitely on their way to conquering their goal! The plant has a capacity of over 30000 tonnes per year, producing product grades of between 15-37GSM of bathroom tissue, paper towels and napkins. In light of the expanding competitive landscape that spans as far as China, Grand Bay Paper has a competitive advantage of operating the only paper mill in the English speaking Caribbean. This translates into cost-saving benefits for its regional clients, including shorter lead times that range from overnight to four-day delivery periods, lower freight costs and the comfort to purchase minimum quantities more frequently. Paper makes up a significant percentage of the solid waste stream and is one of the most recoverable materials. Recycling provides many direct and indirect benefits including: preventing emissions of many greenhouse gases and water pollutants, reducing the need for new landfills and incinerators, saving energy and supplying valuable raw materials to the industry. As part of recognising the invaluable role that it must play in the protection of the environment, GBP recycles the huge volumes of water used in the production.
